The paper describes the application of indexing – technology currently widely used for processing and comparing textual information – for multi-dimensional entities of knowledge domains. We propose the model for building frame-based ontology, which contains both domain conceptual model and controlled vocabulary of “base terms” used for indexing. Further, the ontology constitutes the structure for the knowledge base of the developed recommender system dedicated to supporting human-computer interaction in web applications. The system automatically forms its notion of the interaction problem being solved, as a structured set of base terms, and compares it with pre-indexed hci design guidelines representing practical knowledge of the domain. The interaction problem context is defined by the input data: 1) semi-structured attributes of target users and 2) natural-language requirements for the web application being developed. The former are mostly processed via production model rules stored in the knowledge base, while the requirements text is mined for base terms from the controlled vocabulary. As the result of the comparison, the system provides the set of guidelines relevant for the particular interaction problem context, seeking to save work effort for interface designers. Also, the proposed approach for multi-dimensional entities indexing may be applied in various recommender and knowledge-based systems.
