The conflict between the expansion of the global population and the increasing shortage of resources is becoming striking. The phenomena of climate change, environmental pollution and ecological damage are also becoming increasingly severe. Construction is one of the major human activities that is resulting in a global environmental problem. Ecological architecture has been explored all over the world but has not yet gained ground in the mainstream. The construction of traditional Chinese civil residences has evolved through thousands of years of history, and coincidentally complies with many of the principles of ecological architecture design and reveals a pure ecological view. This paper explores the ecological significance of the design of traditional Chinese civil residences.
