New material used for building construction in the cities of a country need to comply with the climatic conditions and be appropriate to the goals of energy saving in the building sector. This study investigates the climatic strategies used in the field of design and construction of houses and the use of local materials in the Caspian littoral. The major goals of climatic design in the region are extracted by identification of the required group in the climatic zoning table. Those features of building materials which are suited to the climate are specified. After verification of the strategies, some recommendations about re-use of local materials are presented.
