In this paper, we analyzed indoor Air-conditioning load (hereinafter referred to as AC load) and thermal comfort of apartment buildings in six cities that express all climate characters of Japan. The units of apartment buildings are influenced by different thermal insulation styles. In Japan, outside insulation on exterior walls is the most popular insulation style, up to now. Here we suggest a new insulation style called “interior insulation” which can reduces AC load from the other insulation styles and preserve thermal comfort. We used building environmental simulation software “THERB” and compared the different of three heat insulation styles. We certified the advantage of interior insulation. This suggestion could be a contribution to new generation energy-saving standard formulation.
