Problems in units account for most errors in dynamic analyses, especially for US-trained engineers. The reason is the lack of a standard US unit system. While in the SI unit system the time, length and mass units are always second, meter and kilogram; there is no equivalent standard in the US unit system. Structural dynamicist and stress analysts seem to favor using the inch as the length unit, while in fluid dynamics, including the ASME Steam Table, the length unit is often in feet. To make the situation even more confusing, there is no universal agreement as to what is the mass unit in the US unit system. In fact, it is not certain there is a mass unit at all in the US system of units, as will be made apparent in the following paragraphs.
