Use of open source software (OSS) is clearly an important component of modern education and is expected to grow at a promising rate in the future. Through OSS, education institutes not only realize reduced costs of software but also consistency with traditional academic values of openness and sharing but also faculty disseminate teaching materials as open course ware. The open source software (OSS) movement has impacted higher education institutes, especially IT education, with more than a simple cost saving. Cloud computing is a new term which has recently emerged in IT fields. There is now growing interest in open-source cloud-computing tools. Like OSS, the philosophy of openness should become a way to mobilize developers to create software with cloud computing and make them available cheap or free for higher education institutes.
