To ensure the structural integrity of the piping systems, the piping codes have assembled a set of procedures and specifications covering the minimum requirements for material, design, fabrication, erection, inspection, and testing. The piping is ensured of proper safety factor on structural integrity when all code requirements are followed and satisfied. This chapter covers the stress requirements of the codes.
This chapter will try to look at the code from a slightly different angle to help the reader better understand its requirements. Some rationales of the requirements may be presented to help the reader understand and comply with the code. However, these rationales should not be interpreted as the intent of the code.
