In this study, a condition based model was developed for effective maintenance planning on critical equipment in petrochemical industry. The model utilized three principal measurements, namely: temperature, vibration and pressure, in developing a framework for maintenance planning based on running speed of the components. Instantaneous components' deterioration model was formulated, then dynamic model for the effective monitoring of components' condition for early maintenance planning. Condition monitored data for centrifugal compressor, based on the three principal measurements were generated for a Nigerian petrochemical plant from which expected failure periods for the components were determined. The findings showed that there was a substantial saving in inspection man-hour through the establishment of optimal maintenance cycles for the components of the critical equipment at a given operating speed.
