77 A Health Monitoring System Based on Mobile Phone

Wireless sensor network is applied to many aspects of everyday life. In the field of medical service facilities and health care, wireless sensor networks can be effectively used in health monitoring to enhance the quality of life provided for the patients and also the quality of healthcare services. This paper proposed a health monitoring system. It is comprised of sensor nodes, mobile phone nodes equipped with Zigbee communication interfaces, cellular network, a server belonging to medical service institution and mobile devices such as PDAs or mobile phone nodes carried by physicians. Sensor nodes are responsible for measuring physiological data such as body temperature, heart rate, and blood pressure and these data are transferred to a mobile phone node which starts a preliminary analysis and diagnose. Once a health problem is detected, the patient can get a timely treatment while the mobile phone node transmits the physiological data to the server for further analysis and diagnose through channels like WiFi interfaces or cellular network. Experiment results show that the prototype system has a low cost, high quality of data transferring, and it has better performance in monitoring various physiological data and tracking health status.
