Blumlein pulse generators have been used withgreat success for high voltage pulse generation. They are capableof producing pulses in the nanosecond or microsecond rangesdepending on the transmission line length. In this paper, a two-stage coaxial blumlein line based on photoconductivesemiconductor switch (PCSS) is designed, which can generate a pulse with peak voltage of 18KV and half peak pulse width (HPPW) of 4ns on the load of 50 Ω. The gain of the proposed blumlein line is 1.8 nearby. The PCSS is activated by a laser diode (LD) and a circuit is designed.to drive the LD. With this design, how the bias voltage applied on PCSS and optical power effect the response delay of the PCSS is studied by experiment.
