6 Dissolved Oxygen Monitoring and Sensor Auto-Diagnostic in Carp Culture Tanks

Success in designing affordable automated control systems for aquaculture will be widely applicable because it will enhance water management. Intensive recirculation systems significantly increase fish production per volume of water but require of dissolved oxygen monitoring and control. An intelligent instrumentation system monitored four tanks with one galvanic dissolved oxygen probe and its transmitter, predicted sensor failures and sent codes to the producer. Peristaltic pumps extracted water from each tank without adding oxygen to the sample and dissolved oxygen measurements were auto-calibrated and statistically diagnosed Dissolved oxygen sensor membrane fouling from algal blooms, sediments or suspended droplets were analyzed; membrane fouling problems were controlled by means of motor vibration and water jets. A photovoltaic system was automatically connected under power failures by the LabView interface to assure carp survival.
