Key establishment among neighboring sensor nodes is the most challenging issue in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). However the constrained capabilities of sensor nodes are apparent obstacles because public key cryptography is hardly applicable. In this paper, we prose a new approach to establish pairwise keys which is suitable for low resource sensor nodes. In the proposed scheme, we use combinatorial design to keep the connectivity of sensor nodes and hash function to hinder adversaries getting key information from the compromised sensor nodes. We provide security and performance evaluations of the proposed scheme. The analysis shows that this proposed scheme offers a stronger resilience against node capture attack compared to the previous ones without increasing the memory requirement.
