The research proposed in this paper introduces an efficient algorithm whose objective is to generate isoline and fill color between isolines, and it is based on square grid. In addition to adaptive curve smoothing, the novelty of our approach is building of topological trees, which are used to describe accurately the clipping operation sequence among different connected regions. Finally, the algorithm is fully implemented by assigning appropriate colors to clipped multipolygons. Owing to an efficient and stable performance, the algorithm has been integrated into GIS (Geographical Information system) core components for several application systems in practice.
