The NEMO basic support protocol is extension of Mobile IP, to support group mobility. It can support network mobility in IEEE 802.16e networks. But it causes negative effect on handover latency performance which is not negligible for real-time applications. In this paper, an integrated scheme that combines cross layer design and cross function optimization to improve the handover latency is proposed. In the Optimized Fast NEMO (OFNEMO) the relative messages of both, L2 handover in IEEE802.16e and L3 handover in fast mobile IPv6 and the NEMO basic support are merged. Also a pre-established tunnels concept is used to reduce service disruption time. Analytical results show that the OFNEMO can reduce handover latency (91% in predict mode, 89% in semi-predictive mode and 4% in reactive mode), reduce packet losses and increase probability of predictive mode.
