Requirements engineering (RE) is a critical process in Software engineering (SE) activities. RE helps stakeholders to manage requirements appropriately before dedicated requirements are used to design and implement software. The first stage in RE process is known as requirements elicitation whereby during elicitation, stakeholders will perform a set of activities to permit understanding in problem domain for respected scenario and thus proposing a set of established requirements in developing software. Soft issues such as social presence, social interaction elements such as comfort, connectedness and motivation are very essential as system's requirements since users will use the system as the alternative to meet their members to discuss or share knowledge virtually. This paper reviews the use of requirements elicitation in RE process in order to accommodate soft issues for software development especially in supporting collaborative activities. This paper also highlights the use of having requirements elicitation in software development as well as the importance of resolving soft issues in collaborative application.
