The computer-assisted asymmetrical analysis based on molybdenum-target X-ray images may provide doctors with such important clues on cancer diagnosis at an early stage as finding soft tissue disorders and minute symmetrical bright spots. However, it is seldom studied at present. This paper, directed at the characteristics of molybdenum-target X-ray images of mammary glands, develops an algorithm of image contrast enhancement based on uniformity, and makes, in a quantitatively way, a comparative analysis of its effects with those of the enhancement algorithms of mathematics morphology and histogram equalization that have been implemented. The measures from comprehensive analysis show that the proposed enhancement algorithm is better than the other two.

I. Introduction
II. The Concept of Uniformity and Representational Elements
III. Description of the Algorithm
IV. The Determination of Enhancing Magnification Factors
V. Evaluation on the Contrast Enhancement Effects
