Based on the traditional planar papilionaceous dipole antenna, a new kind of through-the-earth communication antenna was designed. The simulation problem of the antenna near to ground was researched by FDTD and the near field radiation performance of the antenna was given. The result showed that compared with the planar papilionaceous antenna, the wave fidelity of the antenna was better and the symmetrical radiation direction figure and the backward radiation were smaller. And the antenna was applicable for the through-the-earth communication system.
