Based on the thermal elasto-plastic finite element method, the influence of the tool orthogonal rake on cutting forces, workpiece temperature and plastic strain during the orthogonal metal cutting process is studied in this paper. The results show that the cutting forces, the cutting temperature, and the cutting deformation all decrease with increasing the tool orthogonal rake.
