Many civil engineering problems, due to uncertain problem definitions are not suitable for conventional computer applications. Many such problems are now being tackled using Artificial Neural Network (ANN or NN) which operate analogous to that of biological nervous system.

The catastrophic damage to life and property due to wind storms is experienced in many parts of the world including India, which has a long coast line. Also the demand for taller, lighter and more slender structures continues to increase, so does the importance of designing for wind-induced building motion. This has encouraged structural engineers to study the effect of wind induced oscillation on tall buildings. Therefore it is necessary to review computing techniques which are currently in use to determine the wind forces for along wind direction. This paper presents the use of ANN for determination of along wind response oftall buildings for wind loads as IS:875 (Part-3)-1987.
