In this paper, a general expression of optimal skew ratio to minimize pulsating torque and radial force simultaneously in brushless permanent magnet motors at all speed range is derived based on finite element analysis method. It is shown that the optimal skew ratio is proportional to the number of slots per poles per phases and is independent of motor drive, motor type and winding connection.
