LNG (Liquid Natural Gas) is also known as the 1œgreen fuel1 due to its high value of energy density and environmentally friendly behavior. LNG imports have grown in many countries at a remarkably high rate. On the other hand, technological innovation related to LNG facilities have continued, responding to modern regasification needs, like reduction in power consumption in this process.

In order to improve the regasification process, it is possible to couple a vapor compression refrigeration cycle with a LNG regasification system. Energy saving is not the only benefit achieved. By using a green refrigerant, such as ammonia, the stratospheric ozone layer is protected.

It is shown that the exergy analysis plays a key role in the optimization of the considered system. By assessing exergy destructions it is possible to determine the first component to be improved.
