78 Synthesis and Spectroscopic Characterization of Fe- and Mn- Doped Nanocrytalline ZnO Particles Prepared by Co-Precipitation

A series of Fe- and Mn- doped nanocrystalline ZnO particles were successfully synthesized at various dopant concentrations using co-precipitation method. X-ray diffraction and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy results indicate that the samples were crystalline with hexagonal wurzite structure and no metallic Fe or Mn or other secondary-phase was found. In this range of doping concentrations all samples show an expansion of the lattice parameters relative to the bulk samples. UV-Visible spectroscopy has shown that the dopant ions are substituted to ZnO ions in ZnO matrix. The magnetic characterization indicated that the samples exhibited a room temperature ferromagnetic component of magnetization. Furthermore, magnetic analysis showed that the magnetic moment per dopant ion was increased for Fe doped nanocrystalline ZnO. However, the opposite trend was observed in ZnO samples doped with Mn.
