This paper presents an application of the modified adaptive tabu search algorithms (mATS) to a dynamic constrained economic dispatch (DED). DED is one of the main functions of power generation operation and control. Its objective is to operate an electric power system most economically while the system is operating within its security limits, eg. generator capacity limit and generator ramp rate limit. The proposed mATS with an adaptive neighbourhood mechanism (AN) make difference to the original ATS. A fiveunit test system with nonsmooth fuel cost function is used to illustrate.
