The Tiny Encryption Algorithm (TEA) is a lightweight cryptographic algorithm suitable for medium security systems. TEA algorithm has a simple key schedule which uses only one key for all rounds and this decreases its immunity against attacks. In this paper, a Modified TEA algorithm (MTEA) is proposed which uses the Linear Feedback Shift Register (LFSR) to overcome the security weakness of the TEA algorithm against attacks. An evaluation for the proposed modified TEA algorithm using two important security analysis criteria for block cipher; Completeness & avalanche effect criteria is presented and compared to that of the standard TEA algorithm. The results show that the proposed encryption algorithm provides an efficient and secure way for real time application.
