We introduce a task analysis system for enroute air traffic control based on ESDA (Exploratory Sequential Data Analysis). The system integrates and synchronizes data from enroute simulator then visualizes them in various ways, such as “flight path and instruction timing view” and “aircrafts state chart view”. Data in this system consists of movie file of RDP radarscope, communication between controller and pilot and simulator log file which contains light plan and position of aircraft and pilot's input. Through task analysis, enroute radar controller's chief task is classified into two categories and four elements.

The task analysis system was applied to model radar controller's taskload. Differences in approaches to achieve the same task between controllers were clarified and they affected controller's taskload, which was shown by using the task analysis system. From task analysis and an interview with an air traffic controller, three factors influencing controller's taskload were obtained; the amount of tasks which a controller performs simultaneously, time constraint for each task and the duration of a task. A radar controller's taskload model which consists of the three factors is retrieved and corresponded to a controller's subjective taskload.
