The qualitative risk assessment (hazard analysis) for Japanese Experiment Module (JEM), “Kibo”, is conducted. In addition, Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) is initiated to increase the confidence of safety. JEM PSA is based on hazard analyses in which catastrophic hazards such as fire, depressurization, and atmosphere contamination are identified. For accident scenarios starting with the anomaly which result in the catastrophic hazards, event trees (ET) and fault trees (FT) are established considering JEM safety design, hazard analyses, operations inputs such as operation procedures, and flight rules. Preliminary result of JEM PSA identifies the most contributing factors governing the occurrence of hazards or significant accidents. Those fruits will be utilized for the improvement of the operation activities, especially for maintenance plan, and crew activities.
