This book has three parts, on process heat exchangers, air-conditioning heat exchangers, and cooling of electronics. It should not be assumed that exchangers can be conveniently separated into these categories. To illustrate, a short list of subjects from the process section (Part 1) that apply to A/C systems is given in Table 23-1, which lists sections and topics through Chapter 14 to illustrate the point. Only frequently occurring subjects are included in the table. Others that were passed over may still apply in some situations. Subjects are grouped in the table so that common problems can be readily traced.
The purpose of Part 2 is to alert engineers to problems that frequently prevent A/C systems from performing. For example, some exchangers might not meet some operating criterion thus making another selection preferable. The examples are intended to help identify problems that cause underperformance or designs that reduce system and other costs.
