Chapter 50, co-authored by Yasuhide Asada, Toshiki Karasawa and Yoshinori Kajimura, discuss recent development of B&PV Codes and Standards in Japan, historical background, current status and future trend. Authors provide a brief review of historical background that includes a discussion of the Japan Industrial Standards (JIS) and endorsement of JSME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes. Authors discuss the system and status of B&PV Codes in Japan. They describe the current situation of B&PV codes and standards, including the development of codes and standards by private sectors such as JSME and its relation to regulation. As a sample of governmental regulation, they cover the situation of High Pressure Gas Safety Law (HPGSL) and Japan Industrial Standards JIS. The authors provide a summary of HPGSL, Designated Equipment Inspection Regulations (DEIR) and Detailed Technical Criteria.
As a part of new trend and deregulation, codes and standards activity of JSME is discussed covering codes and standards for thermal power, nuclear power and fusion power plant components including materials, design, inspection, welding and fitness for service. The Fundamental Policy and Organization of the Code are addressed with the help of several tables and figures. Asada, Karasawa and Kaijmura also describe recent trends such as technical development and upgrading of codes and standards and the new rules for nuclear piping seismic evaluation and consideration of design factors.
