Spills and leaks of petroleum products generally occur as oil spills and underground storage tank leakage. Whether it is from accidental oil spills or the perpetual leakage of aged storage tanks, the environmental impacts of this pollution are enormous. Causes of and methods for preventing spills and leaks, as well as technologies relevant to remedial actions, are discussed below.
