This Chapter presents the basic philosophy of the French Codes listed below and explains how they are linked to the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED), which is mandatory in the European Union; a comparison with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code is provided. The presentation of nuclear codes will be limited to those applicable to pressure equipment. All of the acronyms used are provided at the end of this Chapter.
