Operators of a synchronous-motor-driven, syngas compressor had been experiencing episodes of high vibration on the motor. Occasionally, the vibration would suddenly become high enough that the unit would trip. The lost production, and concerns about the health of the machine train, prompted the plant operators to ask Bently Nevada to obtain vibration data and help diagnose the problem with the machine.
