A model of the thermoregulatory mechanisms of the human subject submitted to a heat load is presented. It is based on the hypothesis that the thermoregulatory system controls mainly the level of body heat storage but not directly the deep body temperature. The thermoregulatory system would thus appear to be a servomechanism for the heat exchanges rather than a regulator of central temperature.
