Professor Sinha was born in Bihar, India. He graduated with a B.S. degree from Bihar Institute of Technology in 1968, a M.S. degree from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 1972, and a Ph.D. degree from Wayne State University in 1977, each degree in Mechanical Engineering. His academic career started in 1977 as an Assistant Professor at Kansas State University. In 1985, he moved to the State University of New York at Binghamton, and in 1987, he moved a final time and started his long association with Auburn University where he was an Associate Professor and Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Director of the Nonlinear Systems Research Laboratory until his retirement in 2016.
