Triaxial compression tests were made on a sand, with the chamber pressure varied in one series of tests and held constant in another series. Similarities in strength and some aspects of the stress-strain relationships suggest that a single variable-pressure test may supply essentially the same information as a series of conventional constant-pressure tests. These test results are analyzed and brief references are made to techniques of different forms of variable pressure tests that have been used on other materials.
