Wear Processes in Manufacturing
Wear Processes in Manufacturing (STP 1362) is the first publication of its kind to feature the most current research on manufacturing-associated wear problems, including machinability.
Leading researchers in the field present 11 comprehensive papers covering the following areas:
Abrasion in Ceramic Grinding -- One paper examines the two-body belt abrasion test for the quantitative grindability assessment of new ceramic compositions. The other paper explores how grinding material removal rates are effected by such variables as belt speed, load, cutting fluid and specimen rotation.
Wear of Cutting Tools -- Topics such as tool life study under different cutting conditions with and without coolant; stainless steel tool wear results with varying carbon, nitrogen and copper contents; how coatings and/or other treatments impact cutting tools; and the tribology of wood machining such as tool wear, tool-wood frictional interactions and wood surface characterization are explored in six papers.
Friction in Vibratory Conveyor -- One paper tackles the inherent problems with feeding connectors using vibratory conveyors to machines that assemble input/output pins, such as those used in the computer industry.
Erosion in Manufacturing -- High temperature pipe material wear and an innovative electrochemical process for erosion assessment in fluids are discussed in two papers.
This is an invaluable resource for tribologists, materials manufacturers, metallurgists, and machinists; as well as ceramic, chemical, mechanical and industrial engineers.
