A methodology for determining the degree of aging of hot-mix asphalt (HMA) is presented. The evaluation of aging involves relating the wave propagation velocities to the elastic modulus of the mixture, before and after aging. The nondestructive nature of the methodology and its high degree of repeatability make it attractive to monitor the variation in modulus of an HMA specimen through the entire aging process. In addition, field tests very similar to the laboratory tests can be easily implemented.
