The purpose of this paper is to make a general comparison of compiled flexural tensile stress values which were determined by using one of three standard test methods. The material in this paper was gathered from seventeen reports which used one or two of the following test methods: ASTM E 72, ASTM E 518 and ASTM C 1072. All of the flexural tensile stress values collected are those normal to the bed joints for solid and hollow non-reinforced clay masonry and Portland cement-lime mortar. The reports used contain specimens which were air cured and broken at or around twenty-eight days.
