Deteriorating fuel quality, disposal problems, the effects of storage facilities' installation, and fuel cost have created a need for intelligent stored diesel fuel management. Alternative methods of cleaning or treating, or both, contaminated diesel fuels stored under “real world” conditions were tested, and results analyzed to determine methods of managing stored fuel integrity. The methods tested include: (1) mechanical centrifugation/filtration, (2) filtration/chemical treatment, (3) chemical treatment without filtration, and (4) the combination of (1) and (3). Each method is discussed in detail in addition to concluding remarks addressing the most viable method supported by the test results.
