Howmet Turbine Components Corporation has developed an integrated, computer-based system for the submittal, tracking, storage, disposition, reporting, and analysis of laboratory samples and data (chemical analyses and mechanical testing results). The system comprises four application modules: (1) On-line computer application programs control submitting, tracking, verifying, and reporting of test results; (2) a computer automated data collection from laboratory instruments and transmits results to the mainframe computer; (3) a purchased data base management system stores data and allows user-defined data retrievals; and (4) data analysis software provides statistical analysis and graphic representation of the data. The computerized laboratory system has contributed to more efficient laboratory work, higher productivity of divisional personnel, and more effective data evaluation. This contributes to the production of higher quality parts on a competitive cost basis.
