The design of fabric filters for removal of particles from dust-faden gas steams is dependent on the gas and dust characteristics. While the gas characteristics and the mass concentration of the dust are generally specified, the particle size distribution and other dust characteristics described in this paper are frequently unknown. The objective of this paper is to review those dust characteristics which have been found to affect the performance and to propose methods which might be suitable to obtain these missing parameters.
