This paper presents a new electronic oil detector system that guarantees a continuous monitoring of the function of the oil retention system of oxygen reciprocating compressors. As a measuring method the system uses the variation in the capacitance of a capacitor, as a result of absorption of oil by an absorbent element serving as a dielectric. Field experience shows that this system is a major step forward in safe, automatic, remote control of oxygen reciprocating compressors.
