The use of desktop microcomputers for automatic data acquisition of consolidation test data and data analyses is discussed. The various electrical sensing devices used to measure several test parameters are briefly described. In addition to using the desktop computer for automatic data acquisition, a program was written to analyze the data using several classical empirical procedures. The Casagrande logarithm of time fitting method and the Cour inflection point method for computing Cv are used to analyze the time-dependent data. The Casagrande and Schmertmann construction techniques are used to analyze the time-independent data. Additionally, the density, water content, and degree of saturation of the specimen are determined throughout the test.
