The results of a series of self-boring pressuremeter tests (SBPT) carried out in the quaternary Po river sand are presented. Assessment of total horizontal in situ stress, shear modulus and shear strength, of the tested sand is discussed. Comments on the use of the above mentioned parameters in practice are advanced.
