The appearance attributes of aluminum surfaces are measured using integrating sphere instruments commercially available. Total (TR) and diffuse reflectance (DR) values are obtained on the instrument. The specular reflectance (SR) is the difference: The term, “specularity” or “specular reflectance factor” (SRF), is calculated: and is a numerical value of the visual “brightness” or mirror qualities of the surface. Examples of various appearance properties are given to illustrate the practical application of the method.
