Michał Z˙yczkowski was born in Cracow in 1930. He did his studies in mechanical engineering at Cracow University of Technology, obtaining his first degree there in 1954, and the doctoral degree in 1955. He then attended the Imperial College in London, from which he received a diploma in 1958 and the degree of DSc in 1960.
