The goal of this book is to serve as a textbook and a reference; as such it is directed at both students and researchers. This challenge is addressed by providing two volumes. The first volume is reviewed here and is directed primarily towards an advanced undergraduate or beginning graduate course in chemical thermodynamics. Some prerequisite knowledge is implicitly assumed throughout the text; a beginning student would find an introductory reference a great benefit.
