Many treatments of stresses of three-dimensional pipe bends have appeared in recent times. While the calculation of these stresses and deflections is perfectly straightforward, it is still very complicated. It is believed that the analogy to which attention is called in this paper should be of considerable assistance in simplifying these calculations by pointing out their similarity to familiar dynamical concepts involving products and moments of inertia and moments of momentum.
