A rigid-plastic circular plate deflected by a rigid sphere is investigated. The behavior at large deflection is considered; the contribution from a bending moment is neglected. Approximate formulas for the load-deflection relationship are derived. Experiments are conducted and the test data compare well with the prediction results. It is revealed that the size of the rigid sphere has a strong effecton the resistance of the compressed plate.
