Measurements on ultrasonic velocities were performed to define elastic anisotropy produced in steel by plastic compressive deformation. Cylindrical blocks cut from a SS41 steel bar were compressed plastically along the bar axis, and then used to make specimens available for different propagation directions. Velocity variations with plastic strain were shown linear in the strain range from 0.09 to 0.22, and, the strain-induced transverse isotropy of slight degree was determined by analyzing their direction dependences.
