Internal stress arising from a spherically symmetric, finite plastic strain is obtained on the basis of the Eshelby’s theory on inclusions with stress-free strain. Using the internal stress, yielding of a thick-walled hollow sphere is discussed. From the present analysis, distribution of plastic strain in a yield zone and stress distribution are easily obtained, even if a hollow sphere has any type of flow curve. The present analysis is also applicable to forward and reverse loading.
